Gynaecological surgery and births are undertaken here, with adult intensive care, operating theatres, anaesthetists and neonatal intensive care on the same campus at any hour. The unit cares for lower-risk and higher-risk pregnancies alike. Appointments are held at Monash House in Clayton.
A tour of the maternity unit, filmed by Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.
Your stay
Three to four nights, depending on how you and your baby are recovering.
Rooms
A 19-bed antenatal and postnatal unit across levels 3 and 5. Rooms are a mix of private and shared, each with its own ensuite — you can request a private room when you book and again on admission, though it depends on availability and clinical need. Partners are welcome to stay.
Special care nursery
A Level 2 nursery on the maternity ward, caring for babies from 37 weeks, staffed by neonatologists and neonatal nurses.
Neonatal intensive care
A Level 6 unit at Monash Children’s Hospital sits on the same site — the highest level of newborn care in Victoria. Babies born early or needing more support stay here rather than being transferred.
Visiting hours
Your partner or support person can stay throughout your postnatal stay, and is welcome from 7:00am to 8:00pm before the birth. Two other visitors a day between 10:00am and 8:00pm, and siblings may visit with an adult.
Feeding support
Midwives on the ward, plus board-certified lactation consultants before the birth and for up to six weeks after you go home. The lactation consultant can be reached on
0447 314 740.
After you leave
A two-night transition-to-home stay at Hotel Chadstone through the Jessie Parenting Sanctuary, with meals included and parking for one car. Covered by the hospital for privately insured patients, and available as part of a self-funded package. No pre-booking — the ward team arranges it with you.
Booking the hospital
I book you in to Jessie McPherson after your first visit — you do not need to arrange it yourself.
